Vision
A just, equitable and progressive society in which marginalised communities fully enjoy social, economic and political rights.
About DCI
A Kenyan NGO and Public Benefit Organisation working to ensure marginalised communities are never left behind in Kenya's development journey.
Who We Are
Development Concern Initiative (DCI) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization and Public Benefit Organisation under Kenya's PBO Act of 2013. Headquartered in Wajir Town, Wajir County, DCI works to empower marginalised communities across Kenya's Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) through innovative, value-driven approaches to sustainable development.
Founded by professional youth from Northern Kenya, DCI manages resources to create a humane and sustainable environment for pastoralist and urban poor communities. The organisation operates under a committed Board of Directors with a diverse, skilled management team.
DCI's mandate is rooted in the conviction that the most marginalised communities should never be left behind in Kenya's development journey. That conviction shapes every programme, partnership, and operational decision.
What guides us
Vision
A just, equitable and progressive society in which marginalised communities fully enjoy social, economic and political rights.
Mission
To provide a platform to harness and nurture marginalised communities through informed, innovative and value-driven approaches for community development.
Values
Our Approach
Programmes are designed with the people they serve, not for them.
Sphere, Core Humanitarian Standard, Do No Harm, GESI mainstreaming.
Every intervention informed by baselines, real-time monitoring, and learning.
Local government, communities, international partners, all at the table.
Governance
DCI is governed by a Board of Directors that meets regularly to set strategic direction, review performance, and ensure accountability. The Board oversees a skilled management team that combines deep local knowledge with international development experience. Day-to-day delivery is led by experienced sector specialists across our five Development Objectives.

Our guiding principle
Our guiding principle is simple: no community, no household, no individual should be left out of Kenya's development. In ASAL contexts where state services often stop short, where climate shocks compound vulnerability, and where pastoralist mobility complicates conventional programming, DCI exists to close the distance between marginalised communities and the systems that should serve them.
